Project Overview

CCMFund is an initiative of Kyoto Network designed to create the United Kingdom’s largest green CO₂ network by capturing and converting waste emissions from biomethane plants into a sustainable, high-purity alternative to fossil-derived CO₂. The initiative deploys proven carbon capture and utilisation technology from partners such as DMT to intercept vented biogenic CO₂ at its source and upgrade it into food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade Bio-CO₂. This approach strengthens national supply chains, reduces volatile dependence on a single fossil-based provider, and channels new revenue opportunities to biomethane plant operators.

Through a fifty million pound asset-backed fund, CCMFund aims to deliver strong financial and environmental outcomes. The model targets a two-hundred percent investor return within ten years through combined revenues from Bio-CO₂ sales and verified carbon credits under frameworks such as the UK Emissions Trading Scheme, Verra, and Gold Standard. By aggregating multiple biomethane facilities and standardising technology deployment, the fund creates a scalable, decentralised solution capable of supporting the UK’s wider transition toward net zero.

With a goal of capturing one hundred and twenty thousand tonnes of CO₂ each year from more than fifty biomethane plants, CCMFund converts climate innovation into long-term economic value while helping secure a resilient and sustainable CO₂ supply for the United Kingdom.

Project Impact

The CCMFund initiative delivers substantial climate, industrial, and economic benefits by transforming an underused resource into a high-value product. Each biomethane plant participating in the fund replaces atmospheric venting with continuous carbon capture, preventing significant volumes of biogenic CO₂ from being released. At full deployment, the fund will capture approximately one hundred and twenty thousand tonnes of CO₂ per year, providing immediate emissions reductions within the UK’s energy and waste sectors. By supplying purified Bio-CO₂ to food, beverage, medical, and industrial buyers, the project also strengthens national supply security in a market that has been historically fragile and heavily concentrated.

The initiative supports local and national sustainability objectives by replacing fossil-derived CO₂ with a renewable alternative, reducing the carbon intensity of multiple industries. It also stimulates the growth of green jobs through technology installation, maintenance, logistics, and long-term operations. The creation of a decentralised CO₂ network enhances regional resilience and helps industrial buyers secure stable pricing, reducing exposure to disruptions that have previously caused widespread shortages. The financial value generated for biomethane plant operators increases the viability of the broader anaerobic digestion sector and encourages further investment in renewable gas infrastructure.

Project Proof

CCMFund is supported by a verified and transparent documentation process that ensures technical accuracy and measurable performance across all installations. Each biomethane plant integrated into the fund is assessed for suitability, engineered for compatibility, and equipped with certified capture, purification, and liquefaction equipment. Performance data is monitored continuously through plant-level instrumentation that records CO₂ volumes, purity specifications, operational availability, and maintenance activity.

Captured CO₂ is processed to meet food and pharmaceutical standards, and every batch is fully traceable from plant to offtaker. All carbon reductions generated through the project are documented for eligibility under recognised standards such as the UK ETS, Verra, and Gold Standard. Independent verification processes validate both operational output and emissions reductions. CCMFund maintains detailed technical reports, installation records, and contractual offtake arrangements, offering full transparency to investors, regulatory bodies, and industrial buyers.
