The Innovate UK BioCO₂ Research Project is a strategic R&D collaboration between Kyoto Network and the UK’s national innovation agency. This initiative is dedicated to mapping, understanding, and unlocking the value of the UK’s emerging biogenic carbon dioxide (bio-CO₂) market. The project focuses on developing robust frameworks for the Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) of bio-CO₂, creating the foundational knowledge and tools necessary to transform this waste stream into a tradable, sustainable asset that supports a circular economy.
This research project will accelerate the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy by creating a clear, investable pathway for bio-CO₂ utilization. It will help decarbonize key industries by providing a sustainable alternative to fossil-fuel-derived CO₂, support the development of green technologies like Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU), and create new revenue streams for bio-energy and agricultural sectors. Ultimately, it aims to build a transparent and efficient market that turns a waste product into a valuable resource for national climate goals
The project’s credibility is anchored in its partnership with Innovate UK, a leading government-backed research body, ensuring scientific rigor and impartiality. The outcomes will be grounded in comprehensive supply chain mapping, market analysis, and the development of verifiable MRV protocols. These protocols will be designed for integration with standards like ISO 14064 and carbon market verification schemes, ensuring the resulting carbon units are trustworthy, transparent, and compliant
We collaborate with investors, companies, and institutions to scale verified climate and social impact. If you’re interested in funding, co-developing, or integrating this project into your strategy, our team would be happy to discuss options.
