The KyoGreen Clean Energy Systems initiative delivers significant environmental, health, and socio-economic benefits across Zambia. By replacing traditional biomass fuels with household, school, and institutional biogas systems, the project reduces reliance on charcoal, firewood, and other polluting fuels, easing pressure on forests and helping to lower greenhouse gas emissions. This is particularly relevant in Zambia, where many households, schools, and rural institutions continue to depend on biomass for daily cooking and energy needs.

Cleaner cooking environments improve indoor air quality for families, pupils, teachers, and school kitchen staff, helping to reduce exposure to smoke and harmful pollutants that can contribute to respiratory illness, especially among women and children. The conversion of organic waste, animal manure, and other biodegradable feedstocks into biogas creates a sustainable source of clean fuel for homes, school feeding programmes, canteens, and community facilities.

For schools and institutions, larger biogas systems can support cooking, heating, and off-grid energy needs, reducing fuel costs and improving the reliability of essential services. Each installation forms part of a circular waste-to-energy model that not only supplies clean cooking fuel but also produces nutrient-rich organic fertiliser, supporting soil health, local agriculture, and food security.

The initiative also creates local employment and enterprise opportunities through system installation, operation, maintenance, feedstock supply, training, and community engagement. By supporting schools, households, farmers, women, and young people, KyoGreen contributes to cleaner energy access, improved livelihoods, reduced deforestation pressure, and more resilient community-based economies across Zambia.

Project Proof

Project verification is supported by a comprehensive documentation and monitoring framework that ensures each KyoGreen system deployed in Zambia performs reliably and delivers measurable results. Installation records capture the location, technical specifications, commissioning details, and operational status of every household, school, or institutional unit installed.

User surveys and community feedback provide field-level evidence on system functionality, satisfaction, fuel-use changes, and household or institutional benefits. Periodic monitoring confirms biogas output, system health, feedstock use, and displacement of traditional fuels such as firewood and charcoal over time. Operations and maintenance logs track servicing, repairs, training, and ongoing support to ensure continued performance.

Project-specific measurement, reporting, and verification processes record clean energy generation, reductions in biomass fuel use, organic waste utilisation, fertiliser production, and associated environmental and social impacts. Metering logs, commissioning reports, site photographs, GPS records, progress updates, and follow-up inspections further validate the operational integrity of each installation.

Together, these records create a transparent and traceable evidence base demonstrating that the systems are functioning as designed and delivering measurable environmental, social, health, and economic benefits for communities, schools, and institutions in Zambia.
