The Chain of Custody Problem

Carbon markets, biodiversity credits and sustainability programmes face a structural problem: the data underpinning environmental claims sits in spreadsheets with no independent verification mechanism. Anyone with access can change it. No one can prove they haven’t.
Auditors verify periodically and retrospectively. By the time credits are issued, the chain of custody is already broken. Meanwhile the ICVCM Core Carbon Principles, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and CSRD all now demand transparent, traceable, verifiable data.

The dMRV Loop: Baseline to Issuance, Every Year

Most platforms stop at the baseline. Verify.KyoGreen runs the annual monitoring cycle through the same pipeline so year five is as defensible as year zero.

Phase 01

Monitoring

Data arrives from multiple streams, reducing reliance on manual field teams and giving continuous, real-time project visibility.

  • Biogas: flow meters measure actual production and consumption; IoT sensors track digester temperature and pressure.
  • ARR / forestry: satellite imagery (NDVI, canopy cover) and IoT sensors supplement ground-truthing plots.
  • Soil carbon: in-situ moisture and temperature sensors paired with satellite-derived vegetation indices.
Phase 02

Re-Processing

Automated data streams, alongside any targeted manual verification surveys, flow through the exact same pipeline used for the baseline:

This is what guarantees methodological consistency and an unbroken audit trail from year zero through to final crediting.

Credit Quantification

The analytics engine compares monitored data against the validated baseline and calculates tCO₂e removed or avoided for the reporting period:

  • Biogas: verified methane captured or replaced → avoided baseline emissions.
  • Soil carbon: measured delta in soil organic carbon stocks.

Do I have to use FDC to use Verify.KyoGreen?
No. Verify.KyoGreen accepts submissions from any compatible collection setup. Using our FDC service alongside it means the forms, geofences and validation rules are designed against the same schemas the platform expects which removes a class of integration problems entirely.
How does verification work?
Verify.KyoGreen hashes each approved dataset using SHA-256 at the point of receipt, creating a tamper-evident fingerprint. Because only the fingerprint is exposed, an auditor can confirm a dataset has not been altered without even accessing the underlying raw data.
Which standards does the platform support?
